U.S. Open young star Medvedev eyes a shot at a title

Marc Gerstein and Lauren Sterling spoke with Daniil Medvedev, the new U.S. Open men’s seed.

Medvedev will likely face Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in the first round in a very difficult group.

“The United States Open is one of the most famous tournaments in the world, so the opportunity to actually play in the finals on one of the biggest stages in the world with the best players in the world means a lot,” said Medvedev.

One of the biggest things he has learned about the U.S. Open is the unique setting.

“This is one of the three — the final of the Grand Slam. Every tournament starts as a chance to try and make it there. That’s one of the biggest days in tennis that nobody really wants to miss. The event takes place just three days before the U.S. Open starts, so you see so many great and excited people in the stands,” said Medvedev.

The thing that matters most for Medvedev is that he will be in a great tennis position.

“First off, I am a teenager. So I have two years to prove myself as a player. But, I will try to stay focused on what is the most important in my life — that is winning tennis matches, and not being able to think about how long I have to be in the finals of this tournament.”

Marc Gerstein and Lauren Sterling talked with Daniil Medvedev after his match, which is here on Fox Sports. The U.S. Open begins on August 28th.
